Did you know....that according to Indiana's State of the Environment Report 2004, every Hoosier over the age of 18 drove on average 44 miles per day in 2002? This is an increase of 28% since 1991, although population increased by only 11%.
| Walk / Bike Walkable neighborhoods are an indicator of sustainability. They provide benefits to health, the environment, and the community. Find out your neighborhood's "Walk Score" here. The 2006 "Indiana Trails, Greenways and Bike Plan" is available for download here. It's goal is to have a trail within 15 minutes or 7.5 miles of every Hoosier by 2016. Community Bicycle Project A project of the Center for Sustainable Living in Bloomington, this organization focuses on promoting and providing bike transportation for the people of the city. Greenways Foundation With a vision of an interconnected network of trails serving Central Indiana. Hoosier Rails-to-Trails Council An advocacy group that seeks to preserve abandoned rail corridors, canals, towpaths, rural roadways, etc. and promote them as trails. Indianapolis Cultural Trail Urban bike and pedestrian path connecting neighborhoods, cultural districts, and entertainment amenities. Bus / Rail Indy Go Indianapolis Public Transportation System Megabus Low-cost and express bus service between Indianapolis and Chicago, Columbus, and Cincinnati. |
