Ohio Township Public Library System
History: Through the work of Board members, the Administration, the architectural firm of Veazey Parrott Durkin & Shoulders and the Construction Management firm of The Skillman Corporation, ground was broken for a new library in June of 2004. This new Library was opened in November of 2005 and is the first LEED registered public Library in the state of Indiana. LEED stands for Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design and is an award given by the U.S. Green Building Council to buildings that are energy efficient and environmentally friendly.
Results: Increased use of sustainable resources, increased public awareness of green building concepts, use of recycled materials for building, use of pond water for irrigation, use of photovoltaic cells and solar panels for energy. Built according to LEED standards.
